all through high school and college, i was ab.so.lute.ly obsessed with MxPx. i said that if they ever came to wichita, i would be there regardless of the cost. i got to see them once at cornerstone, but i was highly disappointed with their show. if i remember correctly, i left partway through to go to the raver tent. oh, for the misguided pleasures of youth again.
today, my cousin text messages me and tells me that MxPx is coming to wichita this sunday. and that her husband's band is opening for them! so, i am making a last minute, flurried trip home to see my mom to celebrate the day of her birth and watch one of my favorite bands open for another of my favorites.
::edit - post show::
my cousin's band, stars go cold, opened and they were incredible. it was a really short set, but it was probably one of their best that i've heard. i like the fact that not only are the guys in stars go cold good musicians, but i actually like their music. that makes shows a lot more fun. that and getting in for free and being able to ignore the 'no reentry' sign.
now, i haven't made it a habit of listening to mxpx since i was a sophomore in college, so we're talking about four years ago. i haven't been obsessed with/in love with them since i was probably 16. i totally thought that i was cool enough to go, listen, take a few photos and be content. and i was...until about halfway through the show when i got close to the stage to take some pictures and they started taking requests...and, of course, all the requests were for their older stuff. thus, my goobery inner 16-year-old was unleashed and i spent the rest of the show screaming lyrics at the top of my lungs, only retreating when my camera/face was threatened to be smashed in by the mob of jumping idiots who had also gotten in touch with their inner child.
it was wonderful.
*squeal* i love them.
